I was born in New York City alleyways and tenement noise
Well I've been to Jamaica, swam in Ocho Rios Falls
'Cause in Wheeling, West Virginia, I found a place that suits my views
Well I've lived in San Francisco, smoked gold in Golden Gate Park

Commentary:
Truth: I was born in N.Y.C., I did swim in Ocho Rios Falls, and eventually I lived in San
Francisco but the kind of gold I'm talking about was non-existent in Golden Gate Park by that time. I also did pass
through Wheeling on the Steam tour. And lastly, I never liked white musicians who try to play the blues (except for
Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaughn and maybe one or two others) because I believed that the
blues truly belongs to the black musicians. If I had attempted to write blues music it would have been phony. However, I
did actually play with an authentic all-black blues band once in my life and you can read that story if you want
to wade through an extremely long but very interesting web page in
The Story of My Life.
