The Girl of My Dreams

Tonight I met the girl of my dreams
Tonight I met the girl of my dreams
It's 4 o'clock in the morning, I want to sleep
Got a secret inside I don't want to keep
It's all about an incredible girl I met
A dozen hours ago, I don't believe it yet
The Duke of Earl wasn't lucky enough to meet
Such a beautiful girl on a crowded street
I didn't notice we both were nearly running
I knocked her down, I didn't see her coming

She lay there laughing and I was so embarrassed
I could have bought a one way trip to Paris
I helped her up, it seemed she couldn't care less
I asked her out for dinner and she said yessssss!
You could have knocked me over with a feather
We spent until midnight together
Don't want to live another minute without her
I want to shout to the whole world about her

Tonight I met the girl of my dreams
Tonight I met the girl of my dreams
I might forget what loneliness means
Tonight I met the girl of my dreams

Impossible dreams sometimes come true
If it can happen to me it can happen to you
I never met a girl as sweet and clever
She talked as if she had known me forever
I didn't want the fantasy to end
I believed I was meeting my best friend
I'm not certain that I'll ever recover
I always dreamed that a friend could be a lover
Don't want to live another minute without her
I want to shout to the whole world about her

Tonight I met the girl of my dreams
Tonight I met the girl of my dreams
I might forget what loneliness means
Tonight I met the girl of my dreams

Peter Cross is the songwriter, the lead singer and he also sings all the harmony tracks, plus he's the arranger and the producer.

Commentary:

The chorus melody came from a song originally written by Tor Pinney. It was so catchy that it got stuck in my mind and the inspiration for this song came from a friend from the Second Chance divorce group who was fixated on finding the girl of his dreams. Every time he and I went out to bars together, he would say "Peter, I can just feel it, tonight I'm going to meet the girl of my dreams!" He said it one too many times and the connection in my mind went zap! I thought to myself, this is really what every man is looking for, isn't it? A best friend who is also a best lover - that's the kind of girl you marry. There are 14 vocal harmony tracks altogether (not including the lead vocal). This is a bit of a vocal extravaganza for one singer, and this is where the many Peter Crosses singing together got humorously named "The Crossants" (by me).
