John is Alive

We're all members of the human race for better or for worse
And we're all riding on the same planet in the same universe
We're all members of the human race for better or for worse
And we're all riding on the same planet in the same universe

"Come Together", said the Prophet John
"All You Need is Love" to carry on
"A Day in the Life"?   Dear John is dead
I'm gonna try to "Imagine" that John might have said:
(Remember)

We're all members of the human race for better or for worse
And we're all riding on the same planet in the same universe
We're all members of the human race for better or for worse
And we're all riding on the same planet in the same universe

"It's Getting Better all the Time"
"We can Work it Out"   'cause   "I Feel Fine"
"I Want You",   "Goo-goo-coo-choo"
"Because" your "Words of Love" still ring completely true
(Remember)

We're all members of the human race for better or for worse
And we're all riding on the same planet in the same universe
We're all members of the human race for better or for worse
And we're all riding on the same planet in the same universe
John is alive! if we remember
John is alive!   if we remember
John is alive!   if we remember
John is alive!   if we remember
John is alive!   (he'll never die), if we remember   (keep the faith)
John is alive!   (he'll never die), if we remember   (keep the faith)
John is alive!   (he'll never die), if we remember   (keep the faith)
John is alive!   (he'll never die), if we remember   (keep the faith)

Peter Cross is the songwriter, the lead singer, he sings all the answering tracks, plus he's the arranger and the producer.

Commentary:

Although The Beatles gave the songwriting credits on every song as "Lennon and McCartney", we now know that they wrote many of their songs separately, and they sparked each other to higher levels of songwriting. I think John was the more innovative songwriter, although quite obviously Paul was no slouch either. In their earlier songs, it was John's bridges in Paul's songs that always kicked them up a few Emeril notches by being even more intense than Paul's verses. The two greatest popular songwriters in history influenced my music in many ways. I often said my songwriting goal in life was to write just one song that would be as good as John and Paul's worst Beatles song. Their superior influence reflects in my music in terms of the way I strived to utilize creative vocal harmonies and crafted each one of my songs to be different from every other song, yet still contain a unifying and distinctly personal sound.

Like millions of other people, I was heavily influenced by John, both in music and in real life, and that explains the line referring to "The Prophet John". Remember? "War is over if you want it" and "Give peace a chance". I wrote the chorus to this song many years ago, but I never could find the right verses to fit with the chorus until it dawned on me that the chorus was something that John would have said, and that's when I realized that my song could be crafted to be about John. I went through all my Beatles albums and selected titles from John's songs to create my new verses. Try to think of any other song that uses actual song titles to express the songwriter's own idea. The message of this song is that John is alive in all of us, if we just remember him and the message of his life - Peace and Love.
