Knight in Shining Armor

I want to be your knight in shining armor
I want to make you rave, and be your love slave
I want to be your knight in shining armor
I want to drive you wild, I want to raise your child
I will never cheat on you, I'll keep your secrets true
I'm here to stay, I will not desert you . . .   no, no, no, never

I want to be your knight in shining armor
I know it's our fate, I am your soul mate
I want to be your knight in shining armor
I will not fail, I will prevail
I'm gonna treat you right, let's turn out the light
You deserve the best, don't settle for less . . .   yes!

I'll come to you in the middle of the night
Let's cuddle up warm, let's cuddle up tight
Let's kiss and play in the middle of the day
And then cuddle up tight, in the middle of the night
And on into the day, and into the next day
And on into the years, until death takes it all away
I want to be your knight in the middle of the night
I want to kiss and play in the middle of the day
I want to be your knight in the middle of the night
Let's kiss and play in the middle of the day
I want to be your knight in the middle of the night
I want to kiss and play in the middle of the day
I want to be your knight in the middle of the night
Let's kiss and play in the middle of the day . . .   Oh, yesssssss !

Commentary:

Knight in Shining Armor was written during the darkest and loneliest time in my life, and it is the kind of song I always wanted to write. It is pure rock and roll, and it's in the Bo Diddley groove which I love like a musical orgasm. It's hard to write in that groove because Bo has filled it up almost completely and there's not much room left, but it's as sexy as rock and roll music can be because Bo put his finger on the musical G spot. Knight in Shining Armor reflects my particular experience becoming an available male in the 1990's. It seems as if women have resurrected the Scarlet O'Hara teenage dream of the perfect man, one who will always love them, cherish them, protect them, bring home the paycheck, play with the kids, be forever caring, and never, never, ever, under any circumstances "cheat" on them. During the 1960's and early 1970's, this stereotype fantasy man was retired into the background for a while in favor of realism, and it became OK to break the rules and improvise new roles. It worked for the times. But now, for reasons dating back into the 1980's when Aids became a real fear, the fantasy of the Knight in Shining Armor has returned in full force to plague the female population by setting them up for a long fall when they find out their ideal man is a real human with weaknesses they didn't know about. So in this song, I step out front and say to all women everywhere "I'll be your Knight in Shining Armor". Within the world of music, this is possible, this can be true, even though in real life it's highly unlikely.
