I want to be your knight in shining armor
I want to be your knight in shining armor
I'll come to you in the middle of the night |
Peter Cross is the songwriter, the singer, the arranger, and the producer.
Commentary:
Knight in Shining Armor was written during the darkest and loneliest time in my life, and it is the kind
of song I always wanted to write. It is pure rock and roll in the musically orgasmic Bo Diddley groove that I adore. It's very hard to write
in that groove because Bo filled it up and there's not much room left in it. But I think Knight is as sexy as my rock and roll music can be
because Bo put his finger on the musical G spot. Knight in Shining Armor reflects my experience becoming an available male in the 1990's.
It seems as if women have resurrected the Scarlet O'Hara dream of the perfect man, one who will always love them, cherish them, protect them,
bring home the paycheck, play with the kids, be forever caring, and never under any circumstances cheat on them. During the 1960's and
early 1970's, this stereotype fantasy man was retired into the background for a while in favor of realism and it became OK
to break the rules and improvise new roles. But now, for reasons dating back into the 1980's when Aids became prevalent, the fantasy of the
Knight in Shining Armor has returned in full force to plague the female population by setting them up for a long fall when they find out their
ideal man is a real human being with weaknesses they didn't know about. In this song, I step out front on stage and promise to women everywhere "I'll be
your Knight in Shining Armor". Within the world of music, this is possible, this can even be true, although in real life it's highly unlikely.
