Music City
I hear you bought yourself an island and you're gonna retire real soon
You're gonna build a super dream house, way off by some secluded lagoon
And while you're out there relaxing and playing
I'll be back here working out my reason for staying
In this place I believe I belong, called Music City
My friends are living in Mill Valley, right down among the redwood trees
While I'm sleeping in the alley, picking dung off my dungarees
Down here the nights get cold and being hungry ain't so pretty
It's lonely and painful down in Music City
Big executives sit on the central committee
They make big decisions over Music City
But I'm on the inside and feeling so free
Holding on to nothing, and nothing gets held over me
You see them riding in their Mercedes, taking winter vacations in Cannes
I'm back here living in the city, making music with my bare hands
And while I'm practicing playing my axes
All the fat cats are worrying about paying their taxes
No, you ain't gonna hear me complain about Music City
