This is where I categorize my own songs and beat the moronic music reviewers to it, thus making it easy for everybody to pigeonhole me. I didn't breed any pigeons to fit in the holes but my music wrote itself and it seems to flourish quite naturally all by itself in certain holes. However, one of the holes does appear to have been invented by me and if it's really true that I invented the hole, then I'm kind of proud of my invention. It's almost impossible for a songwriter to invent a new genre of songwriting or to create anything that's truly new, but I may have come close to doing that with my Yoga/Rock songs. To the best of my knowledge, nobody but me has ever taken ancient Hindu mantras and used them for lyrics with new melodies in choruses for original rock and roll songs. Sure, that's being derivative but all new inventions are derived from some pre-existing components. Bottom line is I like 'em, I give 'em two thumbs up, and I even think the live performance is pretty good considering that I'm a drummer and not a guitar player. I did a couple of other novel things too, like in John is Alive where I used titles of Beatles songs to form my verses about John Lennon, and in Mona where I convinced the Rolling Stones without Mick to back me up, and of course in Belchmeister where I invented the Belchmeister - case closed. |
