This recording is rather primitive but it's one of only four examples of me singing and
playing acoustic guitar in front of a live audience.   I only did that once.
For Sri Swami Satchidananda.

The White Swan

Peacefully moving across calm waters, she glides
Easily seeing through the darkest shadows, she'll pierce my soul with her eyes

The white swan - she's always there
The white swan - she really cares - the white swan

All in one movement, she shakes the earth from her wings
Listening in wonder and concentration, I silently pray while she sings

The white swan - she's always here
The white swan - eternal seer - the white swan

Calling the sound of her lover's name, she breaks my heart with joy
Out of her laughter, a strong vibration destroys
All of my questions and apprehensions with love
Spreading the magic with pure intentions, she brings her peace like a dove

The white swan - she knows her pace
The white swan - she shows her grace - the white swan

Beauty and purpose in every action, I can't believe she's real
Love and devotion, my eyes can barely conceal
Peacefully moving across calm waters, she glides
Easily seeing through the darkest shadows, she'll pierce my soul with her eyes

The white swan - she's always there
The white swan - she really cares - the white swan

Peter Cross is the songwriter, the singer, and the guitar player.

Commentary:

The white swan is the yogic symbol for God in a similar way that the dove is a symbol for the Holy Spirit in Christianity. I wrote this song about Swami Karunananda and you can read about her and see her photo in The Swami and Me. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for these lyrics which I think are very poetic, with beautiful and sensitive imagery. The melody is hauntingly beautiful and the chord progressions are interesting and different. All these qualities are things I tried very hard to embody in every song I wrote and I think I hit the nail squarely on the head in this one.
